Photo sessions in the comfort of your own home are a beautiful way to capture your unique family, especially with a new baby. Whether your baby is newborn or a few months old, I’m a big advocate of doing your photo shoot when you’re ready. The 2 weeks after your baby is born is the ideal time to capture them in that squishy curled up phase. If you’d rather wait a few more weeks or even months for your baby session, that’s ok too, the newborn period can be a bit of a hazy mess (I know mine was second time around and it was Christmas)! I will always do what works best around your family situation, and never pressure you into anything your don’t want. Either way, my sessions are very relaxed and I don’t pose your baby, so we get those tender moments and details without any awkwardness.
Being at home means you have everything to hand and we take your baby’s lead, whether they need changing or feeding, there’s no pressure, we just go with the flow. Your home also makes your shoot completely unique and helps tell your family story, whether it be a photo in a cosy corner of the nursery or your favourite spot on the sofa where you spend hours staring at your newborn. You can always grab that special blanket or teddy too.
On a recent photo shoot with baby Jacob, Mum wasn’t ready straight after he was born. Life just felt like a lot, which I totally understand so we waited until he was about 3 months old. Mum was so happy with the photos as we got some sleepy ones and some gorgeous open eyes and smiles too which show off his happy personality. Jacob has a doting big brother so to capture them both together was really important to Mum and Dad. Mum has no regrets that she waited – she loves that he was smiling and she felt more like herself too.

Olive had a newborn shoot when she was just a week old. She wasn’t up for being put down (I don’t blame her!) so we got all her photos snuggling with the family. This is what I mean by taking baby’s lead! She also had a doting older brother so we got some really special photos with him (and the fur baby in the family, Henry).
A home session is great for older siblings, because they can come and go as they please – get snacks, watch a bit of TV, and because they’re in a familiar environment, it’s not so unsettling for them. I always make sure I build a good rapport with the older siblings – it’s a time of huge change for them so I always give them lots of attention, which helps get them on side and ultimately cooperating!
If you’re ready to book a cosy home session, however old your children are, please drop me a message to book in or see my home session page here. I can come to you in Buckinghamshire or Hertfordshire and investment starts at £75. If you’d like to ask a family member to gift you a session as a newborn gift, I also offer gift vouchers.
