Pitstone Windmill is pretty iconic in the local Bucks and Herts area, and when a local family wanted a photo shoot there, I jumped at the chance. I’ve taken photos here before, but with the windmill as my subject matter rather than a family. This was a returning client who had bluebell photos back in 2021 so it was lovely to see them again and they bought both sets of grandparents with them. I LOVE extended family photo shoots as I think it’s so important to record memories with family, and when they were interested in a golden hour shoot too, I felt like I’d hit the jackpot!
It was the perfect evening and because my extended shoots are 90 minutes long, we were able to get photos at the windmill, as well as hop in the car and get some more images at Pitstone Hill, giving the family loads of variety in their gallery, and making the most of the sunset. It’s a great location for golden hour and locals often come here in the summer and watch the sunset from the top of the hill (I did it myself in covid times!).
We started at the windmill which was so much fun for the children as we played some games and ran around lots. You can see from the photos that the kids had a blast! Then we drove a few minutes up the road to Pitstone Hill for some photos as the sun started to set and then finally over the road towards Ivinghoe Beacon to get the incredible light from the sun setting.
It was really special to capture this family in their home town where their girls will grow up. Mum said, “Such gorgeous photos of our family in some of our favourite local spots. As we said on the day, its no easy task to get everyone feeling relaxed, deal with the ups and downs of kids, make sure we are all in the right place and capture effortless looking photos! But you absolutely nailed it, thank you Tanya!”
